Thus both the A & B prototypes had stocks which could be swivelled.ĭeveloped from the MkII both the prototypes had a number of features in common integral folding stocks, rear pistol grips, a conical flash hider, a much shorter barrel length and a lighter receiver. It was thought that an integral folding stick would be more compact and secure during the jump and more quickly accessible once the paratrooper landed. However, with these earlier models paratroopers had to detach the stock from the receiver to make it more compact, once on the ground they would have to waste valuable seconds assembling the two parts. Originally envisioned as a weapon for airborne troops, a role which the earlier MKII & III and the later MkV filled admirably.
